Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of Facedown ("the App"), developed and operated by Sen Huang. By using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Service Description

Facedown is a screen time accountability app that allows you to block distracting apps on your device and pair with a partner for mutual accountability. When either partner breaks through a block, the other is notified. The App tracks streaks and bypass history to help couples hold each other accountable.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Facedown. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement.

Your Account

Accounts are created automatically via anonymous Firebase Authentication. No email or password is required.
You are responsible for providing an accurate display name and for any activity that occurs under your account.
You agree not to abuse the service, attempt to circumvent its functionality through unauthorized means, or use it to harass others.

Subscriptions & Pricing

Facedown offers both free and premium tiers:

Free tier — app blocking, personal streaks, and partner pairing. Does not include partner notifications or partner status visibility.
Premium — all free features plus partner notifications, partner status, and full accountability features.

Premium is available as an auto-renewable subscription via the Apple App Store:

Weekly: $0.99 per week
Yearly: $39.99 per year

Free Trial

New users receive a 1-week free trial of premium features upon their first pairing. The trial begins automatically when you pair with a partner for the first time. After the trial ends, you may continue using the free tier or subscribe to premium.

Billing & Cancellation

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account and renew automatically unless cancelled.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via your device's Settings → Subscriptions.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No prorated refunds are provided for the remaining time in a billing cycle.
Refund requests for App Store purchases must be directed to Apple.

User Responsibilities

By using Facedown, you agree to:

Use the App only for its intended purpose of screen time accountability.
Provide an accurate display name that does not impersonate others.
Not attempt to reverse-engineer, modify, or exploit the App or its backend services.
Not use the App to stalk, harass, or monitor someone without their knowledge and consent. Pairing requires mutual opt-in from both partners.

Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from within the App via Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. It removes all user data, partnerships, bypass history, and your Firebase authentication record. Active subscriptions must be cancelled separately through your device's Settings.

Intellectual Property

All content, design, and code in Facedown are the property of Sen Huang. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the App without written permission.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Facedown is provided "as-is" and "as-available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times. Screen Time and device management features depend on Apple's APIs and may be affected by OS updates or device settings beyond our control.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sen Huang shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App. This includes, without limitation, any relationship outcomes, emotional distress, or disputes that may arise from using the accountability features. Facedown is a tool, not a mediator.

Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
